Topic: – Patient Safety Organizations and Protected Information

Brief Description of Topic- Last Year, first with the Charles decision in January and the Edwards decision in October, the legal landscape for those charged with promoting patient safety in healthcare facilities has become much more difficult. The Florida Supreme Court in these two cases, and in several others less directly, has required healthcare risk managers, patient safety officers, etc.  to turn over the very records they were required by law to create in an effort to uncover the causes of medical errors. Is there any remaining way to collect and analyze the causes of medical errors without creating the evidence that may eventually be used to punish a facility for doing what is right?
