The session will review the latest on the self–referral laws and anti–kickback laws. Additionally, the speakers will discuss real world implications of the current laws. The speakers will discuss the complications for real world transactions.
9:20–10:10 a.m. The Complex World Has Real World Complications: Government Investigations

This session will discuss how and why healthcare activities become government investigations. The Panel will discuss the process of government investigations. Also, there will be discussion of how to best interact with government actors and attorneys. Finally, the panel will provide insight into the current world of government investigations.
10:10–11:00 a.m. The Complex World of Being a Medical Staff Member or an Attorney Involved in the Process

The presentation will be conducted as a panel discussion of a fact scenario. A scenario will be presented that raises various medical staff issues, including but not limited to medical staff member obligations and rights, investigations, National Data Bank reporting, licensure impact, contract ramifications, due process/procedure rights and obligations, provider status impact and other related concerns. The panel will provide insights into suggested best practices, strategy and potential outcomes.

In this presentation, a panel will review various scenarios that highlight potential ethical dilemmas lawyers may face. The discussion will focus on identifying ethical pitfalls and navigating these challenges with clients. The panel will also address the critical questions and facts that should be discussed with clients when dealing with such issues. Lastly, the conversation will cover best practices for avoiding or resolving ethical conflicts effectively.
