Message from the Chair
On behalf of the Executive Council, welcome to the Health Law Section of The Florida Bar.
The Section is over 1800 members strong, with practices spanning the many aspects and specialties within health law. The Section has seen continued growth in recent years. But there remain many attorneys in Florida who devote at least some portion of their practice to health law, and yet are not members of the Section. We hope to change that.
One of the biggest benefits of being a member of the Section is access to the Section’s continuing legal education (“CLE”) programs and news materials. The Section hosts several in-person CLE seminars during the year, covering topics ranging from health law fundamentals to the most recent developments in fraud and abuse, compliance, risk management, and representation of licensed practitioners. The Section also hosts a series of monthly audio webcast CLE programs, allowing health care practitioners to keep abreast of the law from the convenience of their own offices. Additionally, the Section offers members electronic quarterly newsletters and monthly health law updates containing practice related articles.
Over the last several years, the Section has reached out to younger lawyers who practice health law. This year will mark the Section’s third year of having a Young Lawyers Division. We hope to increase Section participation and grow future Section leadership through the Young Lawyers Division. We also seek to establish a mentoring program, whereby experienced health lawyers can help younger lawyers navigate the complex web of regulations, agencies, and case law that governs this practice.
My deepest thanks to those of you who are members of the Section, and especially to those of you who serve your fellow Section members by teaching, submitting or editing articles, or volunteering your time with the Executive Council. To those who are not yet members, I invite you to join the Section and discover a great group of colleagues.
I look forward to serving you during my 2015-2016 term.
